Exercise and weight loss go together like chocolate cake and saddlebag thighs. Sure, you can lose weight without exercise, but it won't be the kind of weight loss that lasts and your body won't look half as good as it could if you take some exercise along with your reducation in fat and calories. There is no simple exercise and weight loss plan that will work for everyone. When you are seeking out ways to lose weight or shopping for exercise equipment, you should not think of your weight loss plan as a fast fix to a temporary problem; you must consider changing the way you eat and move for the rest of your life. Resolving to live and eat healthfully, along with a good exercise program, is truly the only way to get in shape and stay that way. This is why a one size fits all approach to exercise and weight loss programs just don't work. Believe me, I know. After years of yo-yo dieting, trying everything from over the counter pills to meal replacement shakes to the latest fad diet plan, I was ready to give up. I'd seen moderate success with each of these, which lasted about five minutes before the pounds I had lost showed back up and brought some friends. Seventy pounds overweight and unable to walk past a mirror without breaking down into tears, I finally decided to do something permanent about my weight problem. I started by determining exactly how many calories I needed in order to sustain myself each day, then counting every bite I took of every piece of food. Because I would not allow myself to cheat, no matter how hungry I became, I lost 40 pounds in six months; without spending a penny. An entire year passed without another pound lost, though I continued to watch my food intake very closely. That was when I discovered the secret: exercise. My favorite exercise was walking. I started just walking around the block, but soon worked up to one mile, then two, then more and more, losing pounds as I went. The weight loss I experienced from this exercise amounted to my desired 30 pounds plus another 10! Two years later I'm still walking and still looking fabulous. If you want to be successful with your weight loss plan, find the exercise that works for you! |
